Although !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I want a second car. Something fun. Something exciting. Something different. Today's NPOCP would fill this void nicely. But is $4800 too much?

The 1960s were full of incredible cars. Most people think of the classic muscle cars like the Mustang, Camaro, and Charger were all the rage. Although cool, these never amazed me. This 1966 Mercedes 250S however does amaze me. The styling. The elegance. The status. It just equates to this incredible car. I always looked at these and thought that they must be worth a ton; a car that would only be found in my dream garage. Then this popped up.

Kinja'd!!!

This particular example claims to have only 85,000 miles on the odometer and has been garaged for most of its life. It also features a manual transmission, which is cool because how many modern day Mercedes sedans have manuals? It claims to be all stock, except for the radio. The interior is very clean; the leather showing very little age. My favorite feature would be the steering wheel, since it just looks so different. The back seats appear to be very comfortable and offer a lot of legroom.

Kinja'd!!!

The body looks very clean. It appears rust free and all the bits are still there. It is ready to be driven daily. Although it won’t be very fast, the style this thing gives off is immense. I’d love to roll up to Cars and Coffee or the classic car shows in this. It just fits in.

Kinja'd!!!

My question for you is about the price. Is $4800 reasonable? It seems low. Like too low to be true. Is this car worth the money? If I had the space, I’d be looking at it right now. So, NPOCP?

Bought my 280 SE 4.5 for $800. These can be had for less, but this looks to be a possible European import from the look of the headlights. Either way, a bit overpriced, and that interior is huh? Body looks clean though.

From a performance standpoint, it won't be exciting. However, it will ride extremely well and it looks the part. NP at under $4500.

800?! When? And in which condition? Sounds like the bargain of the century.

it is a nice model, though even beneath those seat covers that is early mb-tex, not leather. Nice lights, 4 on the tree. Let me just say it is BARELY worth it for that model, even in that shape. I have had 3 of those and never paid over 1200 in slightly tougher shape on the exterior (that I brought back to that shape with little work). I had one 6 cyl, one 4.5 and one diesel

2 years ago. Craigslist find. Rotted tires. Needed a headlight bezel, battery. Drove it out of the field and 2 hours home. Not in the best shape, but could pass as a DD.

I LOVE this.

A $4,800 '60s Benz is half the amount that people in today's FP NCOCP say is a nice price for a Dodge Daytona C/S.

I'd rather have 2 '66 Benz 250S sedans than one Daytona C/S. Easily.

Pretty much. It was sitting outside for 4 years, but never saw any salt. Little bit in the wheel wells, but nothing major.

That is the problem with European W108s. They all rust like crazy. Finding a cheap rust free one is like winning the lottery (same goes for E28s). Often importing from a sunny US state is the better solution.

My w115 240D was a rust bucket. The w108 was stinking lucky. I didn't even know about w108/109's when I found it. But the point is they can be found for way less that $5k.

Man, I know there are a couple of people here suggesting that $1500 200-series MBs in good shape grow on trees, but a cursory search on the internet of several different sources indicates that people aren't asking anywhere near that for their similar-looking examples. This one may be a touch high, but don't bail on a car because you've been told a tale about $1500 200s.

Well I have one of these, if its clean, no strange things done to it, no rust, I think its ok. The interior is not an issue, plenty of kits for that, I have sheepskin over my original seats. Parts for pre W123 are more money unless you can find good used ones. I always have a Merc sedan, I DD a diesel w123, I have a fin tail estate as well. You can rebuild anything on an old Merc, they are tough and made to last forever. If you get to know them you can do a lot yourself. For help there, I know Kent Bergsma at mercedessource.com in the USA is a great expert, former bush pilot turned Merc mechanic. His family runs the site to help people do things themselves. I would never regret a good Merc sedan, keep it forever and take care of it, they feel great and solid.

That blue is such a cool color... especially compared to the colors available today
